Winter is over. The snow has withdrawn to the high mountains and gives way to: hiking routes, mountain paths, trekking and walking routes through the picturesque landscape around Goldegg in Pongau.
“We start at the crack of dawn. The morning mist is still lingering over the Böndlsee lake. The village of Goldegg is still asleep. On the surrounding mountain summits, the summer sun is winning, metre by metre, more daylight. We climb higher and soon reach the first rays of sunshine - this will be a wonderful day hiking around Goldegg.”
When you go outside in Goldegg, you find yourself in the middle of the countryside. Fields, hills, mountains and the wonderful moor lake of Goldegg. This lake is part of the conservation area and offers, as well as recreation, a welcome cooling down after a hiking and mountain tour. Goldegg, as well as the originally preserved village centre, consists of scattered houses, farmyards and mountain pastures, which are just waiting to be hiked. Hit the road and climb up to lovely forests, beautiful plateaus and welcoming mountain huts.
The best place to lace up your running and Nordic walking shoes and to go is either along the lakeside promenade or aound the “Oberhof“ circular route. You will find numerous running routes and training possibilties around the area. You will bump into one or two locals en-route. The Goldegg locals are sporty and love active activities in their wonderful countryside. After a morning run around the moor lake and a quick dip in the lake, you can start your day refreshed and motivated. Follow the locals, as they know where the hidden gems of the region are.
The Salzburger Almenweg sounds like a nice easy route, however don’t be misled. On over 350 kilometres, the Salzburger Almenweg leads you up to 120 mountain huts and to numerous breathtaking summits. In the northern direction, via the Almenweg, you can get to the Hochegg, the Schneeberg and the area of the Dientner Sattel. If you head in a southerly direction you can get to the neighbouring Gasteinertal and can go up the Buchberg, Bernkogel or the Kramkogel. Summit experience and high-altitude euphoria guaranteed.
On a 1,5 hour easy hike, the herb education specialist and photographer, Andrea Rachensperger, explains the secrets behind the wild herbs of the area. Children go on discovery with their magnifying glass and take a closer look at the stinging nettle hairs and the flower petals. Whoever takes their own camera with them will get valuable tips and tricks on how to photograph plants correctly. Additionally, you will also collect herbs that are good to mix in a salad. After the walk, you will regain your strength with a nettle soup and a roll and a wild herb spread.
