The winter day is bitterly cold. The trees are covered in snow and the snow crystals glisten in the winter sun. Even before the sun starts to shine over the sun plateau of Goldegg, you are on your way. You step out the door into the cold winter. Your visible breath runs ahead of you. For the first few metres of the cross-country skiing trail around Goldegg lake, you are still a bit sluggish and your cold muscles fight against the cold winter wind. After 10 minutes you are revved up and now it can really get started...
Does Goldegg not quite sound like the centre of Alpine sports? However this is not the case for cross-country skiing. Not only do the former Olympians, Felix Gothwald and Michael Gruber like to train in Goldegg, but also the 45km long cross-country skiing trail on the sunny plateau in Pongau offers a fitting terrain for every fan of cross-country skiing. Diverse and with a snow guarantee is how the cross-country skiing centre in Goldegg is presented to its guests.
With 8 different cross-country skiing trails, every fan of this Nordic sport can find what they are looking for. Thereby you do not even have to decide between the classical and skating style as all of the cross-country skiing trails are prepared for both. All of the cross-country tracks are joined with one another and take you deep into the wonderful Goldegg winter countryside. There are clear and easy to understand signs ensuring easy orientation – from beginners to professionals.
Michael Gruber is an Olympic winner from the Turin games. His discipline is the Nordic combination (cross-country skiing and ski jumping) and he has many other talents up his sleeve. He does not go up on the ski jump so often anymore. Jumping was never really his strong point, it was more cross-country skiing. At the 2006 Olympic games in Turin he won gold. Now, in his freetime, he trains in Goldegg and appreciates the multifaceted nature of the cross-country skiing trails on the sunny plateau in Pongau. Felix Goldwald is his friend and together they enjoy a sporty retirement on the Goldegg cross-country skiing trails in Salzburger Land.
